It’s insulting to this riding that the elected member and the party leader think so little of them that they become a vehicle for, dare I say it, a wannabe Laurentian elite to get back into parliament.
As an aside the Conservative Party should have to pick up the tab for this unnecessary election.
It’s an incredible opportunity for the riding if they elect Bonnie. I have a feeling she won’t arrive in Ottawa full of conservative rage but might actually set a new precedent of, dare we go here, cooperatively working together for Canadians. Hands across aisles, more accurately hands across end zones
I think he’s going to “win” with a vote in the 60s, and be forced out either right before or after the convention. I can’t see him sticking around after. I will be deeply unsurprised if there’s another byelection six months from now

Respectfully your man wasn’t selected by anyone. He’s forced an unnecessary by election. He lost, his platform of rage lost, his allegiance to the maple maga is not what this country wants. Your man had 20 years to do something. Frankly his record speaks volumes about who and what he’s all about - him.
I’ve enjoyed the quiet workman like manner in which Carney has approached the job at hand. All work - no drama.
On Reddit, people in the riding have reported getting polling calls, which is fascinating. Normally no one would bother paying for polling for this byelection. If it’s a media outlet, I’ll be interested to see whatever numbers they report. If it’s internal polling by PP’s campaign that would be even more interesting
On an unrelated note, I’d love to see a breakdown of all the different ways “Pierre Poilievre” gets spelled on the write in ballots
Interesting point - what is the clip level of understanding the voters intent with a write-in ballot? All the permutations and combinations, along with 200+ candidates, some of whom may have names similar...... Could we be looking a made in Alberta "hangin' chad/dimpled chad, shy chad/etc situation"? The imagination roils! 🤣
No Elections Canada is running this election as they do all federal elections & they’ve said they’ll accept misspellings as long as the intent is clear. The situation in Florida was very different, Americans don’t have a national nonpartisan agency overseeing their elections like we do in Canada.
I really hope Bonnie Critchley gets a boatload of votes; I think she'd really take the work of MP very seriously.
But I also want to point out the calibre of some of the other candidates who live in the area: Katherine Swampy, Ashley MacDonald and Darcy Spady. How lucky we are here in Alberta that these people keep contributing, keep participating in democracy.
They won't win this election but that doesn't mean they'll give up on making Alberta the best it can be. Hats off to all of them.
I think she is a stellar candidate for consideration by the voters of BRC in this by-election. I think she'd make a good MP and she'd be an effective representative for the voters in her riding.
PP is all hat and no cattle. The voters in BRC know it to their bones. The old Reform saw "The west wants in" was at its core a demand for respect. This is the level of Bonnie's appeal.
The easy contempt for the BRC voter by the PP campaign and the greasy political calculus of the Conservative party brain-trust running PP in BRC is so nakedly self serving it miserably fails any test of political respect - party machine shenanigans may result in a near-biblical 2nd kicking in the nuts for Poilievre.
