My UCP MLA lectured me at length about how the NDP was responsible for the coal contracts. After explaining how it wasn't actually their fault he went on to claim there was a magic process that would eliminate Selenium from the water. I've never heard from the man again.
As a fellow contrarian and from the hard C country of Northern Alberta, I became an NDPer mostly as a result of dismissing the other politics as unworthy. But then I joined Social Media and have been struck by Progressives complaining about not having a home. I always thought the P part of PC was just a way to fool themselves into believing Conservative economics had heart.
Then along came the UCP
And now we have an NDP that won't stand up for Canada and effectively stands for nothing …
Voting will have to be on a Candidate by Candidate basis.
This is why, if I were the one writing laws in this province, I’d outlaw political parties. Have a slate, make it have a new name each year, and fold it up after the election. No party, no members, no legal form of buying influence. Get elected on your own merit (not a party brand) and represent your constituency and province as best as you are able.
I’d also not repeal Bill 14 so that no slate could call itself conservative. Snicker.

Still waiting for the many UCP MLAs who were seemingly intelligent people, concerned for Albertans and not their own bank accounts, a few years ago to acquire some testicular(ovarical?) fortitude and walk across the aisle.
The fact no more have done so since the spring, especially after this 14 bill shitshow circus, leaves me to suspect that they have lost any moral compass and integrity I thought most of them had previously.
The banana republic of Alberta, the klown kar of Canada, is now a laughing stock. Not one instance of broad based governance for the betterment of Alberta in an entire legislative session! They did manage to create almost indescribable chaos in healthcare, take $200 a month away from those on AISH, reduce daycare fees for their wealthier supporters and rudely tell 450,000+ Albertans who love Canada to "piss up a rope!"
Could the recall effort in Medicine Hat - Brooks be another false flag operation like Lethbridge East?
The Leg Writers on the hill deserve a long quiet break after this season of the gong show!
Um, there are no socialist hordes in Alberta politics, so our political landscape isn’t polarized in that sense and it seems a false dichotomy. There is a party, which has formed government and seems intent on making it unworkable for most Albertans while extracting profit for its friends. And there is a party, which has a track record (albeit, brief) of providing competent, caring, and honest government. So it is polarized that way. Not sure what Mr Guthrie, et al can do to “bridge” that divide.
As we saw in the 2023 election, all things being equal, UCP has the edge by virtue of being the “conservative” party. I think the NDP could eventually convince conservative voters that their core identity won’t be jeopardized by voting NDP but I don’t have much optimism that what we expect from govt survives the time it’ll take. I welcome a conservative voice to oppose what this govt is doing because there’s at least a hope conservatives will listen to that.
There’s plenty of voices in the gay community I’ve run into in various social media who say performing sex change surgery and the like on 13 year olds etc and that it crosses a line.
