Honestly I’m not all that concerned about separatism succeeding, what I am worried about is what’ll come in the aftermath when it fails because while Smith has been relatively transparent of what her political beliefs are I also think the referendum failing could be the point where Smith and the UCP go full mask off; going on a policy blitzkrieg to fully dismantle everything in Alberta
Again I know it’s something they’re technically already doing now but we’d see it happen at an even faster rate if the UCP and separatists don’t get their way because if it fails then their mission becomes to ruin the lives of everyone living here out of spite
And yes I recognize this might be the paranoia talking but it’s something I’ve had to mull over when thinking of the Separatists’ ambitions failing and what they may do after
I don’t think Smith cares one whit if she’s fails completely; she’s off to Panama if Alberta turns on her. It hasn’t happened yet, so she’s going to keep trying to get her libertarian utopia because she doesn’t have to deal with the fallout.

I wonder if "Alberta’s distinct legal traditions" refers to the fellows who took guns to the Coutts blockade and were treated as martyrs and "political prisoners" by the rightwing extremists, who never stopped shrieking online about it. I don't recall Smith saying such a thing but she sure hangs around with a lot of the shriekers.
Remember it was Denis Modry who arranged her phone call to Artur Pawlowski about his criminal case re inciting the Coutts mischief.
Remember her earlier disappointment at learning she could not pardon people.
But it seems possible Smith also has a personal motive for damaging Alberta's justice system: fear of being prosecuted over those corrupt health care contracts and possibly other mishandling of public money. Are some of the moves she and Mickey Amery are making intended to cover their own butts and to make it harder to get evidence of corruption?
I think it refers more to what they think is right over what the law is; think of how they gutted conflict of interest rules— “they” can be trusted. “They” aren’t doing anything wrong. If another govt was in power, “they” would be screaming corruption from the rooftops.
And I think protecting justice ministers is some nod to Madu, while the things he was sanctioned for had nothing to do with his duties as Justice Minister. I don’t even think it would protect him, but might protect Amery since it’s alleged he is doing the bidding of the premier.
Apparently Mickey Amery's wife is a cousin of Sam Mraiche. Relatives of Mraiche hired by the gov't of Alberta may also be relatives of Amery. So the corruptcare scandal may involve him or his family as well as others in Smith's government. It certainly raises questions at least. Should he still be Minister of Justice?
The corruption that occurred with the corrupt care scandal is so blatantly obvious when you connect the dots. Marshall Smith, Danielle Smith, Adriana Lagrange, Sam Mraiche et al should be in court, but alas, we have our corrupt leader with amnesia.
I would say that Smith has lost her North Star, but no she has not. The reflection in the mirror or the whisper in the ear is what guides her. Crossing a picket line at the Calgary Herald or the floor at the Legislature...different piles, but same old sh*t, er stuff. Campaigning as a Pretendcon, but legislating completely differently once past the post, same bad character traits. It's beyond politics.
Even the big mouths at TBA & the Western Standard weren't talking openly about separation or using the NWC to end strikes or trample trans rights. They are dyed-in-the-wool sneak dog oppotunists. Standing up on their hind legs proclaiming their more "controversial" views would take courage. Once they do get a platform, it's used to punch down on those they don't like.
