How about the ABNDP putting Lucaszuk's Forever Canadian petition in front of the government and demanding they agree with it in the legislature, or put it to a referendum. After all, that's what the legislation requires, no? That way we can stop hearing and seeing Canadian media going on and on about this separation petition. 465+ thousand Albertans already said no!
Born-and-raised Albertan here who lived in B.C., Ontario and Quebec before moving back. I reject the separatist (and UCP) premise that Alberta is somehow getting a raw deal.
The tactic from separatists on social media has been to challenge the NDP statements that this should be left to the people and the NDP MLAs should be quiet. I disagree. David Shepherd and Marie Renaud are every bit as much “the people” as Rath, Modry, and Sylvestre. I liked that Albertans began making their individual statements on Threads.
This is mine: I am Canadian. I am the grandson of immigrants who came to thes plains to farm. They came to Canada.
Unlike many of these declarations, I have no loyalty beyond Canada. Whether I’m with family in Nanaimo or Winnipeg, or friends in Quebec or Nova Scotia, I am always Canadian.
I do like my land: the dry prairie, or the trails through birch, or staring in awe at mountain beauty… the ponds with cattails, creeks, rivers. I like my community here in AB. My town is great. My identity: CANADIAN! 🇨🇦
Appreciate both Forever Canadian and the NDP. That’s why I make regular donations to both. It’s going to take big bucks to fight the $500 million from the US. Urge all loyal Albertans and Canadians to support. We left it too late for the Quebec referendum in the 80’s and almost lost this great nation!
