The worst part of the Trump story from the US is how many politicos have taken it as an example rather than a cautionary tale. Premier Smith cow-tows to the Trump administration on the one hand and on the other she cow-tows to the 5000 TBA contingent. In her wringing of those hands, integrity, honesty and good governance become fiction while outright lying, distraction and anti-science become government practice.
I recall seeing that Smith did a conservative training thing in New York at some point -- obviously Republicanized -- I think it was in between her Fraser Institute stint and getting into media. She was groomed, willingly, for this.
The cult of power is a fascinating study. Certainly, looking south has been instructive for Smith. And, the motivations similar - lots of largess and of course stroking narcissistic tendencies. Will she soon be selling perfume? some crypto currency? coal? Of course this type of cult comes with limited loyalty if largess isn't shared in some fashion ... but of course a cult is reinforced with fear ... ummm
