I have lost all hope that there remains a scintilla of integrity or ethics in the UCP Zombie Caucus. We didn't elect them to be crooks but they are apparently willing to be crooks, silent but crooked.
The answer to gerrymandering, if not through a court victory against it, is in voter participation on election day. Voter apathy is the enemy of democracy.
I still think the last election was lost because some shot caller in the NDP hierarchy decided 2 days out to announce an increase in business taxes should the NDP get elected. There but for 1,825 votes was an NDP majority.
I also have been thinking the the UCP (probable) scheme to tinker with at least some of the constituencies in order to increase their own electoral chances might actually be coming from a place of weakness and concern for potential inroads by either the ANDP or the upstart PTPA. I feel that their gerrymandering gambit will result in at least one major court challenge and a likely request for an injunction. They are going against the grain of Canadian politics and historical court precedents. Smith's rationale for throwing out the Commission's Majority Report is not at all convincing. If and when taken to court, they'll likely lose and depending on timing and actual circumstances, and injunction might well be granted in advance of an election. Where would that leave them? Voters will not be kind to the UCP if the next Provincial election is thrown into chaos.

Meanwhile here in Quebec the CAQ's attempt at their own version of gerrymandering was just shot down by both supreme courts.

As someone who has relatives who fought in WW2, this is what they fought against. Fascism. This is what the UCP have been governing like. Despicable!
