It appalls me the multiple ministers and MLAs who were thought only a few years back to have personal integrity, valued honesty and espoused democratic principles, who seemingly do not.
When is that group, who must have trouble looking themselves in the mirror each morning, going to realize that they've sold their souls to DS for their 30 pieces? Having lost all respect from their electorate the long term value of that government car or committee appointments will not cover the cost of the loss of dignity they have brought upon themselves through slavishly kissing Danielle's ring.
They will be despised by their electors, and hopefully by the volunteers and constituency associations who worked hard to elect people they respected, who are now being disrespected by their UCP MLAs. The only ones spared this will be those who recognize their perfidious treason to Alberta and Canada, and leave the UCP.
So far there are only two former UCP MLAs with Garumba, I had thought that more of them still had maintained their integrity and honesty, apparently I was very wrong.
Good essay Deirdre - though I would would disagree a trifle about the UCP dropping the mask - all the cray cray has been on full display from Day One. I'll not be having any easy denial that all the crimes, incompetence, stupidity and cruelty is the legacy of the "bad" conservatives. Any one remember the $650 million Principal Group debacle? MagCan? The 2 billion Kananaskis Park boondoggle? Gainers? Where is Ralph's race track by the way? Decades of buggering around with health care administrative compensation models while starving healthcare service delivery of operating funds. The 2 Billion dollar Bre-X Alberta Stock Exchange fraud? The Kenney 6 billion pipeline to no where?
Sorry, they don't get off that easy - they are all "bad" conservatives. They looked the other way and welcomed the hate and division into their tent. All of their hands are stained with the lies, bullshit and grime. I wish Guthrie et al all the luck as he and the likeminded start to grow a pair, knuckle down and start pruning the ideological rot. As a life long Alberta New Democrat even I was amazed at the alacrity with which most Alberta Progressive Conservatives gave up the ghost when Mr Kenney dragged his failed career in federal politics back to Alberta. Part of this was wanting to own Notley and the New Democrats and part of it was to follow the money from the O & G Bros who had been swinging Wildroses’ way since Stemach had mused about raising royalty rates. Either way, the entitlements of power conservatives had become accustomed to in Alberta seemed to be the sole goal.
Ms Smith’s government is making this more nakedly obvious every day.
