Not gonna lie, to say this one shocked me would be a bit of an understatement because I had it pegged that the the UCP would gain a narrow victory in Calgary Shaw so to see the NDP actually won it took me completely off guard
Then again my political predictions have always been garbage and I get proven wrong more often than not so this is a welcome surprise
I honestly couldn't have predicted it. I had to be up at five to drive a kid to work and I hadn't slept well the night before (because I had to be up by five) and fell asleep. I woke up at 1:30am and had to catch up to it all. All I can say is it was like taping the Grey Cup game and watching it after you knew who won. So much more relaxing lol
This result and the response is bizarre for a couple of reasons. Yes, the Tory party got nearly 1000 votes, but the Liberals got > 600 votes. If one combines the NDP/Liberal votes and the UCP/Tory votes, the NDP/Liberal votes are 300+ greater than the UCP/Tory votes. That is a big surprise. In addition, Jason Kenney won the UCP leadership under very clouded circumstances, AND created the environment for the separatist/Wild Rose extremists to flourish. Kenney tries to portray himself as a moderate - he most definitely IS NOT A MODERATE. Remember folks that the outrageously cruel and incompetent Adriana Lagrange destroyed the education ministry, appointed by Kenney, before going on to do the same to do the health ministry under Smith.
This is a wonderful result, showing that some Albertans are indeed paying attention. Thanks for the excellent article.
