It was reported yesterday on Substack that Trump had NOT contacted any of the oil oligarchs in the US about this at all, he just can’t help the bs flying out of his mouth. Marco Rubio has wanted regime change in Cuba for decades, that’s where he was born and forced to flee as a kid. Venezuela will stop supply of oil to Cuba next, because Rubio wants regime change. Trump and HIS regime must be removed. That much is clear. What an actual klusterfuck for the entire democratic world, get him out Americans!

Trump's fantasy of swapping reliable Canadian heavy crude for Venezuela's wrecked infrastructure (billions and a decade to rebuild, if ever) exposes the sheer delusion driving this intervention. Abducting Maduro like a bad action movie plot, then strong-arming Rodriguez while dismissing Machado... it's pure imperialism for profit, not democracy.

Your research on Venezuelan history is pathetic, sanctions by the USA, similar to Cuba are what caused all of the problems to begin with. Not socialism, not Chavez. One million bpd of heavy oil production, the current level introduced into North American supply will mean a huge price drop, just what trump needs for his price of gasoline win for the midterms. Add in a little Saudi oversupply as payment for the F35s and you have win win except WCS will be worthless in Vancouver after you pay shipping and the $8 bbl dilutent fee.
Most sources note that Venezuela’s export levels were decreasing well before the 2019 sanctions. I definitely didn’t blame “socialism” for not maintaining their oil infrastructure because I’m very much aware that “socialism” wasn’t leading the country and making spending decisions.
There’s another possible hiccup in all of this and that’s the fact that China was buying close to a million barrels/day from Venezuela. They already aren’t happy with the Trump admin, and I expect Carney’s meeting with Xi next week may be looking at what Canada could do to replace that.
Plus, Venezuela’s VP doesn’t seem to be too happy about the country’s oil being stolen and you might find that they stop pumping it out. There’s a lot of parts still moving around.

Why would they replace Canadian oil. Their companies control around 65% of it already.
