Nenshi wrote an op-ed on separation for CTV… Guthrie is still using the Alberta Party website but he is putting out fairly regular content on LinkedIn, Facebook, and X.

Agreed. In this day and age it is dead easy to fire off to multiple sites at once(and I don’t use any of the ones listed).
I don’t get the NDP operating in silence. It’s almost as if their own admin are upc plants. Ya’ I know it’s a rabbit hole but geez these people are unreachable by phone, email and are unnamed in the NDP websites

They REALLY have to spread out, I can’t stomach any of those sites, they are missing MAJOR sections of society, and simply missing in action, in my opinion. Wouldn’t want to have to WORK for it now, would they? Seems underwhelming to say the least.

I think it's time someone did an economic analysis of the current financial situation in AB with a forward projection of the state of the O&G industry, past this moment - what advantage/disadvantage to AB citizens; the cost of O&G obligations to tax payers; the contribution from tax payers to O&G operations (pipelines) - and the cost of Smith's privatization of everything (healthcare, education etc) to citizens. Either through a lack of Civics knowledge or bad math, the UCP has been able to sell the 'blame Ottawa' narrative. Question: who benefits?
I’m hoping Pete Guthrie is planning on doing this since he’s been really hammering on costs specifically. Anything with math is a crapshoot for me (as I’m sure you remember!) but when the budget drops, we’ll be able to see a bit of where the money is going.
I’ve done a few budget overviews, but for the deep stuff I’ll usually look to Trevor Tombe.

Basically I'm dumbfounded by the idiocy & self-contradiction in the secession movement as their basic assumptions like a landlocked country has more rights than a landlocked province. But, most of all the assumption that mineral rights, necessary for O & G revenue, would passed along to a new country. Those rights are part of the Treaties FN Peoples signed with Britain and passed on to the Canadian Federal Government. At the very least Alberta, the Country, would have to renegotiate the Treaties.

So, yes— there are so many barriers to this actually happening in normal times even, but we aren’t in normal times. The separatist scammers/talking heads have always targeted people who aren’t all that interested in the down sides, but it’s a worse situation at the moment. I do highly recommend watching or reading Jared Wesley’s presentation— he spells out some of the differences between the old “western alienation” and what it is today. I tempered mine a bit after I watched it because I know he’s right; us against them doesn’t help “us”, it helps them.
Thanks for all this, Deirdre. Excellent piece. As someone in the ROC, I am determined to figure out what is going on in Alberta. It affects all of us. In Ontario we struggle with a dreadful Conservative government, led by a cheerful guy who smiles and smiles and is destroying our health care system too. Although not as spectacularly as yours, more stealthily. In any case, never throwing stones; both Ontario and Alberta in a battle against greed and utter wrongheadedness. I’m going to watch the Jared Wesley presentation, thanks for the pointer to that too.
It’s so weird looking over at what you have going on there too— at least our leadership has few to no redeeming qualities. I think that’s easier than having to deal with yours having bouts of Captain Canada where you hate to agree with him 😏
